At the inaugural Pacific West Conference Track & Field Championships this past Friday and Saturday, redshirt freshman Johnny Carter was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Meet after winning both the long jump and triple jump by significant margins.
In the long jump, Carter flew into first with a mark of 24-6.5 (7.48m), bettering Grand Canyon's top jumper among others. He would then produce a new program record in the triple jump, going 51-4.5 (15.66m) for what is now 3rd farthest in NCAA DII.
“The final jump results weren't the marks I wanted, but I am blessed to be the champion and Men's Field Athlete of the Meet,” Carter said. “No better feeling than seeing your hard work pay off.”
Carter also teamed up with Ronald Spears, Jr., Shaquille Howard, and Jaylon Hicks for a new program record in the men's 4x100m relay (40.42). The quartet placed 2nd overall in the meet and their time now ranks 8th overall in NCAA DII.
