SCOUTING THE KEELHAULERS:
It has been a tale of two seasons for the Cal Maritime Keelhaulers who enjoyed a five-game win streak early on in the year before encountering a stretch where they lost four consecutive games which served to even their record at 5-5. Then, most recently, they defeated Pacific Union College, 61-51. Led by forward John Stiles and his 10 ppg along with 7.8 rpg, the Keelhaulers also have center Alex Raj who averages 9.3 ppg and 4.7 rpg.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS:
After losing 12 consecutive games to begin their season, the Hawks of Holy Names University got their first win, 57-56, against Simpson University on Dec. 16 in Redding, CA. Although many of HNU's losses have been by a wide margin, it did have a close 71-73 contest against Pac West Conference opponent Hawaii Pacific University during the team's road-trip in Hawaii. Forward Jonathan Kargas is the only player on the Hawks squad to average double figures in scoring with 11.8 ppg and adds 3 rpg as well. Behind him, guard Robert Christensen averages 9.3 ppg and 4.9 rpg.
LAST GAME RECAP:
Cal State Los Angeles (5-4) of the CCAA was Academy of Art University's most recent opponent and although the Urban Knights hung with the Golden Eagles early, a 20-5 run to end the second half eventually sent CSU LA on its way to a 55-96 victory. Sophomore point guard
Weleh Dennis (Sacramento, CA) led the team in scoring for the fifth consecutive game with 13 points, but only one other Knight, freshman forward
Josiah Jungsten (Loomis, CA), reached double figures (11 points) as 30 Golden Eagles points off 22 AAU turnovers was a big factor in the loss.
