Santa Rosa, CA -- The Academy of Art University finished their second tournament this year with a top five performance.
Western Washington took the whole invitational by shooting a 297 on Tuesday afternoon, a full 20 strokes better than any other team in the field, to cruise to the team title at the Sonoma State Women's Golf Invitational at Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club. The Vikings also boasted the top two finishers in a dominating performance.
Academy of Art entered Tuesday two stokes behind first place Cal State Monterey Bay at 316. Their 319 dropped them one spot and 20 strokes behind Western Washington, and 14 strokes behind Cal State Monterey Bay.
Aiding the Vikings' effort was Claire Rachor, who will bring home individual medalist honors after posting 79-70--149. She was just one shot ahead of teammate Katie Sharpe at 77-73--150.
Cicilia Chudivan paced second-place Cal State Monterey Bay with a third-place finish at 75-77--152. Brittany Carrera of Sonoma State, Monday's leader, dropped to fourth at 74-80--154.
The Urban Knights'
Crystal Superal and
Andrea Nieto paced AAU tied for seventh place at 156 each.
Laura Huertas finsihed tied for 11th and
Lyra Yorounded out the group with a 24th place finish shooting 81-84--165.
The Urban Knights head back up to Seaside, CA next week to take part in the Golf Mart/Lady Otter Invitational Oct. 25.
