BACK ON TRACK:
Since dropping two of their first three matches the Urban Knights have brought their conference record back to even. AAU has won two of their last three matches, sweeping Chaminade University and splitting with Hawaii Pacific. For the sixth straight week junior outside hitter Dan Yang was voted to the Pacific West Conference Top 10 Honor Roll this week. Yang led the league in scoring (5.27) and kill average (4.82) for the week. She was fifth in dig average (4.18) and totaled 46 digs. She scored 58 points on 53 kills, eight block assists and a block solo. Jelena Jakovljevic was also voted to the Pac West Honor Roll for the fourth time this season. She helped AAU to a 2-1 week by hitting .278 and averaging 4.73 points per game. She ranked 10th in hitting and third in scoring in the PacWest for the week, totaling 52 points on 46 kills, four aces and four block assists. She also ranked third in kills per game (4.18) for the week.

UP NEXT
Following their four game home stint AAU takes on three non-conference opponents. They first travel to Seaside,CA to take on the Otters of CSU Monterey Bay, then return home to take on Menlo College for the second time this season, then finish up with a match just across the bridge with Holy Names University before heading off to Hawaii.

SCOUTING THE OTTERS:

The Otters of Monterey Bay have dropped seven of their last eight matches. They have won just two games in conference, Cal State Stanislaus and Cal State Dominquez Hills, and six games overall. Rheann Fall leads the Otters, she has managed 228 kills thus far in the season. Kerri Sudarana and Elizabeth Hanna are the only other Otters with kills over 100, they each have 126 and 117 respectively. CSU Monterey Bay has three players who share the setting responsibilities. Dana Grimm leads all players with 254 assists, Monique Sena is close behind with 212, while Lauren Manzo rounds out the pack with 105.

SCOUTING THE OAKS:

Academy of Art University took the first meeting between the teams, 3-1, 25-23, 25-16, 25-20, and 25-22. In their last match, Katie Pendley and Kelsey Bailey each finished with a team-high 10 kills while Bekowies added eight kills and four blocks. Stephanie Williamson had 26 assists, Stephenie Monderine had 18 digs and Goldman finished with 15 digs.
Overall Deborah Bekowies leads the Oaks with 139 kills. While Stephanie Williamson has dished out 306 assists.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS:

Holy Names University has won their last three matches (as of 10/7/09) to give them a 3-1 Cal Pac record and a 5-10 record overall. Ashley Nickell leads HNU in kills, averaging 2.7 kills per set and a .172 hitting percentage. Mariah Christensen and Natalie Kasbarian have dished out 330 assists this season, Christensen edged out Kasbarian by 18 for the top assist leader spot, 176.

SEA WARRIORS RECAP:
The Urban Knights defeated the visiting HPU Sea Warriors in three sets Saturday evening at Kezar Pavilion, 25-19, 25-13, 18-25, 22-25, 15-5. Dan Yang, who finished with 21 kills and 16 digs led the Urban Knights offensively. Jelena Jakovljevic and Nicolette Hagan each chipped in with 10 kills apiece while adding 14 and 12 digs respectfully. Melissa Cheng had a match high 49 assists and four block assists. Amy Bush was AAU's top line of defense, she finished with two block solos and 9 block assists adding to the Urban Knights 15 team blocks. The win brings the Urban Knights to 15-5 overall and 4-3 in league.
