HITTING THE ROAD:
With just four more games remaining, the Urban Knights hope to finish this season on a higher note than last. AAU has dropped seven of their last nine matches, which is somewhat reminiscent of last seasons finish; when they dropped six of their last seven matches. The Knights' only two wins have come against non-conference opponent
Holy Names University. In their last nine matches the Urban Knights have only managed to win one set, against
Menlo College, otherwise they have dropped all by a score of 0-3. Despite the losses sophomore middle blocker
Amy Bush received Top 10 PacWest Honorable mention honors this week. Bush led the PacWest in hitting for the week with a .528 average. She recorded 19 kills in 36 attempts without committing an error and averaged 2.71 kills per game to rank ninth in the league for the week. Bush averaged 3.50 points per game to tie for ninth in scoring average...totaled 24.5 points on the 19 kills and 11 block assists...ranked second in block average for the week (1.57).
FINISHING AT HOME:
The Urban Knights travel to
Phoenix to play back-to-back matches with
Grand Canyon University this weekend. Following their trip to
Phoenix, the Urban Knights play their final two matches of the season against Notre Dame de and Namur University Dixie State College on Nov 12 and 13.
SCOUTING THE ANTELOPES:
Grand Canyon University for the first time this season for back-to-back matches.
Grand Canyon is currently ranked 5
th in the PacWest Conference just above NDNU and two spots above AAU. Laurann Durbin led the PacWest in digs per game (5.67) and total digs (51) for the week she helped
Grand Canyon post a 3-0 record, including a 2-0 mark in conference matches, she also ranked sixth in service ace average (0.44) during the week.
Offensively for Grand Canyon Whitney Estes has managed 178 kills on the season, averages 2.07 kills/set and is hitting .191.
LAST GAME RECAP:
The Academy of Art University women's volleyball team dropped their 12th match of the season against
Dominican University in
San Rafael, CA. Despite a strong start, Dominican was able to wear down the Knights as they cruised to a 3-0 victory, 25-21, 25-16, and 25-15. As a team, AAU never got above nine kills in any set and Dominican out hit AAU .222 to AAU's .096.
The Urban Knights came out on fire to start the first set. They quickly jumped out to an 11-2 lead over the Penguins. However, with the score tied 20 a piece DU closed out the set on a 5-1 run, taking the first set 25, 21. AAU would never regain the control of the game as they had in the first set and ultimately dropped the final two sets as well.
Amy Bush paced the Knights finishing with a team high six kills and three block assists. Dan Yang chipped in with five kills and eight digs, while Melissa Cheng dished out a career low 12 assists on the night.
