St. George, Utah -- The Academy of Art University's softball team finished out a three game series against Dixie State College Saturday afternoon. Coming back from two loses the previous day; the Urban Knights came out strong, anxious to redeem themselves. But despite their hard efforts and an outstanding pitching performance, the Urban Knights dropped the final game of the series with a score of 3-0.
The Red Storm got on the board first with a pair of runs coming on a triple and sacrifice RBI in the first inning. Strong pitching from both teams kept the score low as Lauren Folta, DXC's starter, pitched seven innings and gave up no runs while freshman right-handed pitcher
Sierrah Garcia allowed just two earned runs on two hits over six innings.
Academy of Art University had a few chances in the final two innings beginning with sophomore infielder
Alana Aweau's single in the sixth. Unfortunately, she was caught stealing and the inning ended with a flyout. In the seventh, junior infielder
Shampayne Clay registered a one-out single of her own, but could not score after two outs followed.
The Urban Knights next begins a two-day, five-game tournament hosted by CSU San Bernardino on Feb. 14 and Feb. 15. AAU is scheduled to face Adams State, Colorado School of Mines, Regis University, Notre Dame de Namur and CSU San Bernardino.
