Arroyo Grande, Calif. -- The Urban Knights men's golf team had a strong showing at the Division I Cal Poly Intercollegiate March 26 and 27.
Coach Joy Aud's Urban Knights carded a four-person, 36-hole 917 total and finished ninth overall, defeating Division I Brown University, Cal State Bakersfield and Cal State San Marcos. The Cypress Ridge course is a 6,818-yard, par-72 layout.
Sophomore
Erik Majzner stole the show with an impressive score of 214 after three rounds, earning himself a fourth place individual finish in the tournament and the best finish for an Urban Knight in the golf program's short history. Majzner carded a 73 in the first round, a remarkable 69 in the second round, and a 72 in the third round.
His final score was only four strokes away from a first place finish.
Freshman
Stuart Favretto continued his streak of consistent finishes, carding a 232 after three rounds of play and a 37 place finish. Favretto posted rounds of 80-78 and 74.
Sophomore
Matt Garcia posted rounds of 80-76 and 77 (233) and finished in 41st place.
Freshman
Joshua Anderson started out the tournament strong, posting rounds of 76-79 the first day, then shooting an 83 in the third round to earn him a 50th place individual finish.
Junior
Dave Carney carded a 264 (91-84 and 89).
There were 14 eagles and 460 birdies carded in the tournament. The 65 players averaged 76.70 strokes per round.
The Urban Knights return to action April 13 and 14 at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational in
Turlock, Calif.
