San Leandro, CA: The AAU Men's Golf team had a strong showing at the Cal Pac Conference Tournament yesterday hosted by Cal State University East Bay. Eight teams were set to compete in the tournament, but Cal State University Maritime dropped out at the last minute, leaving seven teams to battle for the top spot.
The Urban Knights placed 3rd overall and bested fellow Pac West Conference member, Domenican University. Sophomore Matt Garcia led his team and placed 3rd overall, individually, out of the 42 competing athletes. Garcia was a few strokes shy of a 1st place finish. Head Coach Joy Aud was proud of Garcia's dominant performance during the two rounds played yesterday. "Matt has been working really hard on the golf course and has been practicing putting in his dorm every night," said Aud. "It is nice to see his hardwork paying off, and I look to him not only as a leader on the team, but as someone who can be a truly dominant player for us."
Garcia shot a 73 in the first round and a 72 in the second round, resulting in a score of 145 for the day. Freshman Joshua Anderson kept his composure and improved his score by 3 strokes in the second round. Anderson finished with a final score of 151, shooting a 77 in the first round and 74 in the second.
