Rachel Sherman

San Francisco, CA—The Academy of Art University’s softball team announces the signing of Lauren Smoot by head coach Rachel Sherman. Smoot will join the Urban Knights for the 2009-2010 seasons after an impressive career both on and off the field at Bellevue College.

“Lauren will bring both power and speed to the team,” replied Coach Sherman. “She has great presence and confidence on the field.”

Smoot, an outfielder, was named to the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) first team for first base in 2008 and to the NWAACC first team as an outfielder in 2009. Her team finished both the 2008 and 2009 seasons as NWAACC North Division Champions. Lauren had a huge impact on her Bellevue (Community) College team, leading them in home runs with nine, triples with four, runs batted in with 40, and stolen bases during her sophomore year.

She finished up the ‘09 season with a .389 batting average, and a .690 slugging percentage. Lauren plans to major in photography.

"We hope to have Smoot batting somewhere in the middle of the lineup, and definitely competing for time both in the outfield and at first base," added Sherman.
