SMASHING THE COMPETITION:
The Academy of Art women's volleyball team dominated the competition last weekend when they took part in the Central Washington Invitational. Their decisive victory over #21
Western Washington, following their only loss of the tournament, sent a stern warning message to the rest of their competitors to come. Dan Yang (Beijing, China) also proved a point last weekend, she was the only AAU player to be selected to the PacWest Top 10 Honor Roll for the second week in a row. During the CWU Invitational she helped lead the Urban Knights to a 3-1 record. Yang finished with a tournament high 81 kills (24 of which came during the Urban Knights defeat of #21 Western Washington University) and the second highest tournament hitting percentage (.347). Yang was also voted to the CWU Invitational All-Tournament team.

HOME ON THE RANGE:
Following their upcoming trip to
Rocklin, CA the Urban Knights take on the Penguins of Pacific Union College in their season home opener on Sept 15.  The home court play marks the first of the 11 home matches they will have this season. Last season the Urban Knights went 6-3 at home; they played and won the most home games of any AAU team.

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
The Urban Knights draw host institution
William Jessup University as their first match of the tournament. The Warriors have come away 4-3 out of their first seven matches of the season. Their four wins come against Northwest Christian University 3-0, Bethany University 3-1, Southwestern College 3-2, and West Coast Baptist College 3-0.  When the Academy of Art matches up with the Warriors they will be coming off a 0-3 loss to top CCAA opponent Chico State University.

SCOUTING THE ROYALS

Hope International started their season on a 4 game losing streak until a win against Walla Walla University. Following their win against the Warriors the Royals won two of their next three matches, bringing their overall record to 3-6. Naomi Iosia leads HIU on the offensive front, she has a team high 67 kills on the season and a .236 hitting percentage. Debbie Beliakoff is just 10 kills shy of the HIU leader with 57 kills on the season. Two players have almost hit the 100 assist mark in Emily Lyon and Casey Issenmann who both have 96 and 93 assists respectively. Leading the Royals on the defensive end is Christina Richards who has 18 blocks thus far.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

The Urban Knights draw Southwestern College of Arizona as their final opponent of the tournament. The Lady Eagle Volleyball team finished their last season 12-10. They went on to the NCCAA National Tournament for the 3rd year in a row. The Eagle leaders last season were, Caitlin Forrest who had 283 total kills and averaged 3.18 kills/game, 106 total blocks and 219 digs; and Meredith Oistad who broke the school assist record with a total of 618 on the season assists and averaged 6.81 assists per game.
