PACWEST HOMESTAND CONTINUES:
Urban Knights men's soccer finally achieved its first Pacific West Conference victory this past week versus Dixie State. AAU had endured two more one-goal losses to NDNU and Grand Canyon before breaking through and defeating the Red Storm 3-0. Three Hawaii schools are now on tap for the Knights who have completed three of their seven home matches.

OPENING KICKOFF:

Academy of Art University will be in action against Hawaii Pacific on   Oct. 6 at Kezar Stadium with kickoff set for 3:00 PM. Later that week on Saturday, Oct. 10, AAU takes on BYU – Hawaii at Boxer Stadium. The match will also begin 3:00 PM.

SCOUTING THE SEA WARRIORS:
Hawaii Pacific University began its 2009 campaign with three consecutive wins before losing 3-1 to University of HawaiiHilo on Sept. 29 in its first PacWest contest. Since that defeat, the Sea Warriors have earned back-to-back victories with a combined score of 7-1. HPU has equal time split between goalkeepers Matt Terry and Ryan Wurz who have 19 saves and five goals allowed between the two of them. Offensively, Hawaii Pacific has PacWest Player of the Week forward Chance Bukoski leading the charge with his six goals while three Sea Warriors have three assists apiece.

SCOUTING THE SEASIDERS:
BYU – Hawaii, currently 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the PacWest, will play conference matches against Grand Canyon and NDNU in addition to a non-conference contest versus CSU Monterey Bay all before facing AAU next Saturday. The Seasiders have two victories over Chaminade thus far and are led by forward Chris Wood who has four goals and an assist to his credit. Goalkeeper Cory Cosgrave has played all 540 minutes between the pipes for BYUH with 27 saves and 12 goals allowed.

THE WEEK THAT WAS:
AAU suffered through four PacWest Conference losses by one goal before defeating Dixie State 3-0 on Sept. 28. The Knights began their homestand with a 1-0 loss to NDNU followed by 2-1 overtime defeat at the hands of Grand Canyon. Despite those heartbreakers, Academy of Art University bounced back with an early advantage against Dixie State. Three minutes into the match, junior forward Frankie Diaz took an assist from junior midfielder Jaime Patino-Calvo and found the back of the net. Two more Knights goals came in the second half with Diaz setting up sophomore midfielder Richard Luna in the 49th minute and freshman forward Daniel Higa coming off the bench, dribbling through a pack of Red Storm defenders, and scoring an unassisted goal.

MOVING FORWARD:
Following this week's matches, the Urban Knights will conclude their homestand with a pair of conference games beginning on Oct. 12 against Chaminade University at Boxer Stadium. Then on Oct. 16, AAU plays a rematch with Dominican University at Crocker Amazon Park.
