Phoenix, AZ -- Junior guard
Phillip Samuel captured a spot on the Pacific West Conference Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll for his strong offensive outputs against Hawaii Hilo and Hawaii Pacific this past week. The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Jan. 11, for games contested on Jan. 4-10.
Samuel led Academy of Art University in scoring and finished the week with an 18.0 points per game average. In the Urban Knights' first conference game in their history, he posted 19 points including four 3-pointers which tied his career-high set earlier this season against The Master's College.
Samuel added four rebounds and a block in the 73-60 loss to the Vulcans.
Two days later, the junior guard went for 17 points against Hawaii Pacific, the team with the best record in the PacWest, and sank 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
Samuel was instrumental in AAU's comeback at the end of the first half and into the second period. He put in two free throws in the first minute of the second half to give the Knights the lead.
In the PacWest for the week,
Samuel ranked sixth in scoring, was tied for first in 3-pointers made per game, and was tied for fifth (2.5) in three-point percentage (50%).
