Five Knights Represent ART U In PacWest Weekly Top 10

After joining two other Pacific West Conference schools in the 2010 Dominican Invitational on Oct. 26, Academy of Art University took 1st overall led by strong performances from five Urban Knights. Juniors Joey Villasenor, Daveson Marindich, Josh Ballesteros, along with freshman Zack Sainz and senior Edmund Boey all earned PacWest Men's Cross Country Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll selections in the impromtu meet one week prior to the PacWest Championships. The honors were announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Nov. 1, for races contested on Oct. 25-31.

Joey Villasenor
Pacing the Knights on a 5k course was Villasenor and his time of 17:34.61. The Olivehurst, CA native finished 2nd overall, but qualified for 1st place among countable runners. Villasenor was just under six seconds behind Notre Dame de Namur's Ryan Nunez who won the race.

Sainz finished the 5k course with a time of 19:46.58 to represent the second Knights qualifier. He captured 2nd place of countable runners (4th overall) and was one of just five competitors to turn in a time below 20:00. Sainz crossed the line just under eight seconds after the second finisher from NDNU.

put up a time of 20:46.85 on the 5k course. The Lodi, CA native earned 4th place among countable runners (8th overall) and edged out Dominican's second finisher by nearly two seconds.

Participating in the 5k tune up race, Marindich took home a 6th place finish among countable runners (10th overall). He posted a time of 20:57.35 at Golden Gate Park to cross the line ahead of three members of the 2nd place Dominican squad.



Finally, Boey played a significant role in helping Academy of Art University qualify for a 1st place finish as a team. He completed the 5k course with a 22:49.25 mark to place 8th among countable runners (12th overall). The St. John's, NL Canada native represented the fifth Urban Knights finisher and bested a pair of Penguins in the race.

Villasenor and Sainz both earn their second PacWest Weekly Top 10 honor this season (2nd for each in his career) while Marindich takes his sixth in 2010 (10th in his career). Ballesteros and Boey each enjoy their first career Weekly Top 10 selection.
