ART U CONTINUES SEASON-OPENING ROAD SWING
This past Tuesday night, the Academy of Art University men's basketball team nearly topped Cal State East Bay to start its 2010-11 campaign. The Urban Knights were led by 25 points from junior forward Keith Davis, but could not hold on in overtime, falling 68-65. ART U is set to face another CCAA member in UC San Diego on Sunday.

OPENING TIP
The Knights tipoff against UCSD on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 1:00 PM inside RIMAC Arena. In addition to live stats, live score updates will also appear on the Academy of Art University Athletics Twitter.

KNIGHT WATCH
In his first game as an Urban Knight, Davis poured in 25 points and did so in a variety of ways. The junior transfer from Humboldt State was 3-for-3 from three-point range, and 8-for-8 at the free throw line. Davis also added two rebounds and two assists in his breakout game. Freshman forward Will Overton came off a hot ART U bench to score 11 points including four in overtime. He also pulled down five rebounds with a block and a steal. Senior guard Lance Olivier contributed nine points along with four assists, while junior center Hunter Hayden amassed a team-high eight rebounds. Academy of Art dominated CSUEB in bench points, out-scoring the Pioneers 30-14.

SCOUTING THE TRITONS

Opening up its season with the Disney West Coast Tipoff Classic, UC San Diego is now 2-1 overall. The Tritons showed their ability to out-rebound opponents in the first two victories over Lewis and the PacWest's Dixie State. In a closer contest with Alaska Anchorage, UCSD fell 67-52 as the Seawolves put forth a strong second half. Center Christian Hatch has averaged 14.0 points per game through the first three contests to lead the Tritons. Behind Hatch, guard James McCann averages 13.3 ppg, and guard Casey Ryan paces UC San Diego in the rebounding department (6.0 rpg). UCSD has out-rebounded its opponents by nearly 7.0 per game thus far.

ART U STARTS SEASON WITH OVERTIME THRILLER

Several new faces led the way in the Urban Knights' season opener at Cal State East Bay on Nov. 16. Though the Pioneers prevailed 68-65 in overtime, the teams put forth an unforgettable back-and-forth battle. Early on, CSUEB made attempts to pull away, but Davis and freshman guard Czar Robotham knocked down key 3-pointers to keep Academy of Art within striking distance. At halftime, the Pioneers held a 33-25 advantage, but the lead was not safe.

The Urban Knights unleashed a 10-3 burst to climb back into the game and shortly thereafter, Davis scored seven straight points to give ART U the lead. East Bay managed to get four points in the final 1:10 of regulation, sending the game into OT with the teams tied 61-61. Overton kept Academy of Art close in overtime with a pair of free throws early and a jumper midway through, but the dramatic game was fittingly decided in the final minute. Three made free throws by CSUEB's leading scorer led to two opportunities for the Knights to tie. Overton and Robotham both attempted treys in the final seconds, but neither would fall in, and the Pioneers held on for the win.
