Sveinsson and Grimsson Capture Final PacWest Weekly Selections

PacWest Release

Phoenix, AZ --
As instrumental pieces in Academy of Art University's success to close out 2010, junior defender Vilmundur Sveinsson and sophomore forward Grimur Grimsson were both selected for the season's final Pacific West Conference Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll. The Urban Knights won two matches in the last week of the season with Sveinsson and Grimsson each notching game-winning goals. The honors were announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Nov. 8, for games played Nov. 1-7.

Vilmundur Sveinsson

struck for the match's lone goal during the 95th minute. He received a cross from Grimsson to the back post and dramatically headed it home for the ART U victory. Then, two days later, Sveinsson put the Knights on the board against Dixie State with the game's first goal. A corner kick by freshman midfielder Andrew Durano set up the score this time in the 37th minute.

At the conclusion of the final week, Sveinsson had totaled four points with two goals. The game-winner versus NDNU was Sveinsson's second of the season after he helped ART U top Hawaii-Hilo 3-2 in double overtime on Oct. 1. The Reykjavik, Iceland native finishes the year with the third-most goals (3) on the Urban Knights.

Grimur Grimsson
wrapped up his 2010 season the way he started it: Clutch. After setting up Sveinsson for the game-winning score in overtime against the Argonauts, Grimsson impacted Saturday's season finale in a huge way. Less than one minute after entering the match, Grimsson broke away from the defense, chipped the ball over the Red Storm goalkeeper, and scored. His goal in the 84th minute was the difference as Dixie State netted another goal late, making the score 3-2.

Grimsson
finished the week with three points coming off his one goal and one assist. He wraps up the season as the Knights' game-winning goals leader (4) and ends up second on the team in total goals (5).

Following the season finale, Head Coach Daniel Rosaia expressed his excitement for the play of both Sveinsson and Grimsson.

“Vimmi and Grimur are both great kids from Iceland and they been a huge part of the success that we had,” Coach Rosaia said. “It was nice to see both of them score in the game together today.”

Sveinsson
earns his second PacWest Weekly Top 10 honor of 2010 and his career. For Grimsson, this is his third selection of the season and his career.
