The Start of the 2010 Season:
The Academy of Art University women start things off with tough Division II competitors Sonoma State University. This will be the first match of the 2010 season for both the Urban Knights and the Seawolves. The Knights have added two new faces to the roster and have seven players returning for this season. With no fall games played, the AAU women are anxious to get their season underway.

 Meet the 2010 Urban Knights: Leading the way for AAU this season will be senior Anna Ritchie who finished will 6-11 overall record last season. Adding to the experience of the team will be junior Laone "Lala" Botshoma who had the highest overall record on the team last season with 11-6. Also returning are sophomores Paola Correa Fe, Cecilia Hedin, and Maria "Belen" Tenorio. The two new additions are Ariel Rippner (Chico, CA) and Diane Phan (Fremont, CA). Meanwhile Head Coach Dave Allen returns to the director's chair for his second season with the Knights.

 Scouting the Seawolves: Sonoma State concluded their 2009 season with an 11-9 overall record, and a 6-2 CCAA record. The two teams met each other in early February last year, and the Seawolves came out on top with a 6-3 victory. Senior Jessica Harris led her team last season with a 13-7 overall singles record and a 1-0 doubles record. Harris captured an 8-4 conference record and put up a four game winning streak during the season. Also coming off an impressive '09 year is sophomore Stephanie Hoffmire. As a freshman, Hoffmire had a 9-4 overall record.

 Scouting the Argonauts: Notre Dame de Namur University finished with a 1-15 overall record last year. The Argos faced the Urban Knights in their final match of the 2009 season and lost with a score of 1-8. Sophomore Courtney O'Donnell was the team leader last year and ended up with a 6-8 overall singles record. The Argo's will be looking for leadership from their two seniors Katelyn Mills and Ashley Wilson.

 Looking Ahead: After their opening games on February 3rd and February 5th; the Urban Knights will then head to Glendale Arizona for the Paseo Tournament. The women will be gone from February 11th- 15th in which they will play five games. Game one of the tournament for the Knights will take place on February 11th against Grand Canyon University. Game time is 9:30 AM at the Paseo Racquet Center.
