Recap on the Knights: The Academy of Art University recently returned from a tournament in Las Vegas, NV. The Knights faced tough competition and in result had a 1-4 record in the tournament. This home double header, in which the Urban Knights host William Jessup, will be the Knights' only home game until early March.
Leading AAU: Junior Ashley Lokey currently leads the Urban Knights offensively. Lokey is batting a .478 with one double, eight runs scored, has a .538 on base percentage and is 5-6 in stolen bases. Sophomore Sierrah Garcia leads the team with a 5.22 earned run average. In over 29 innings pitched, Garcia has given up 17 walks, and has posted 32 strikeouts.
Scouting William Jessup University: The William Jessup softball team is competing in their inaugural season this year. The Warriors are already off to a good start with a 3-3 overall record. The Warriors recorded their first ever win against Biola University on February 12th with a score of 8-1. Their team is composed of eight juniors, two sophomores, eight freshmen, and no seniors. Freshman Mallory Boldgett is currently leading the Warriors with a .455 batting average including one double, one run scored, and two runs batted in. Sophomore Brianna Melgard leads on the mound with a 3.36 ERA, with eight earned runs, eight walks, and nine strikeouts.
Scouting Menlo College: The Oaks have a current record of 1-2. After their initial two games of the season got rained out, the Oaks were finally able to star their season last week when they competed in the Big League Dreams Tournament. Their first win of the season came against Oregon Tech University where they won 10-9. After their first game, senior Jamie Pauley went 2-2 with double, two runs scored, and one run batted in. Freshman Nadia Le'I went 2-3 with a double, one run scored, and one RBI. Last season the Oaks finished with an 11-25 record, and split with the Urban Knights in the two games they faced each other.
Looking Ahead: After the two double headers this week, the Urban Knights hit the road on February 24th to face Cal State Monterey Bay. That double header is scheduled for 12:00 and 2:00 PM in Seasisde, CA at the Otter Sports Center.
