Belmont, CA – The Academy of Art University (0-22, 0-12 PacWest) fell to Notre Dame de Namur (4-21, 2-12 PacWest) Monday in their Homecoming rematch. Although AAU led at the half, the Argonauts outscored the Urban Knights 34-23 in the second half to take the win, 60-50. Freshman
Ivan Prema, Jr. led the Knights with 12 points hitting 10-of-11 free throws in 27 minutes on the floor.
After falling behind by 12 points less than six minutes into the first half, the Urban Knights turned to their defense and shut down the Argonauts. AAU was able to get within two, and a foul at the final buzzer sent Prema, Jr. to line to shoot three. Prema sunk all three foul shots igniting the visiting crowd and giving the Urban Knights a 27-26 lead at the half.
In the second half, AAU was able to continue their defensive success holding NDNU to 21 percent from the floor and 0-of-2 from the three point line, but the Argonauts scored their points on the free throw line. They were sent to the line 33 times, hitting 28 shots. “We competed hard but in the end we gave them too much at the free throw line and they were able to take advantage of it” said Head Coach Mark Sembrowich.
Junior forward Jonathan Burnett notched 10 points and seven rebounds including six on the offensive side. Junior guard Lance Olivier contributed seven points as he hit 3-of-5 shots and pulled down four rebounds.
Four different Argonauts finished the contest with double digit points. Joshua Malloy was the standout for NDNU as he recorded 17 points, knocking down all 13 of his free throw shots.
The Urban Knights will head to Phoenix for their next contest to take on Grand Canyon University. The game is set for 7 p.m. on February 25th at Antelope Gymnasium.
