Laie, HI – The Academy of Art University was unable to contain the offense of Brigham Young University at Hawaii Wednesday and suffered a 102-67 loss. Three Urban Knights scoring in double digits was not enough to hold off the Seasiders.
Freshman Aaron Aikman looked sharp for AAU as he led the team in both points scored with 20 and rebounds with seven. The forward shot an impressive 6-of-8 from the floor and added 8-of-13 from the free throw line.
Although Aikman recorded 12 points in the first half, BYU-Hawaii started the game with a 19-2 run that was too much for the Urban Knights to overcome. The Seasiders sunk 48 percent of their shots that would put them ahead 51-22 at the half.
AAU turned to their offense in the second half as they knocked down 47 percent of their shots, but it was not enough. The Seasiders lengthened their lead shooting 53 percent from the floor and putting the game out of reach for the Urban Knights.
AAU's leading scorer, junior Jonathan Burnett, recorded 10 points sinking 5-of-7 shots from the field. He added six rebounds and a block in his 22 minutes in the game. Freshman Jordan Knox also notched 10 points in the game hitting 2-of-3 shots from behind the arc and dished out two assists.
The Urban Knights did a good job holding the Seasiders leading scorer Virgil Buensuceso to five points, as he entered Wednesday's contest averaging 14.1 points per game, but BYU-Hawaii was able to find other ways to score. Lucas Alves finished with 24 points and seven rebounds and Anthony Reilly added 15 points and seven rebounds.
To finish the Hawaii portion of their schedule, AAU will take on Chaminade University in Honolulu. The game is set for Friday February 5th at 7:30 (Hawaiian Time) at McCabe Gymnasium.
