Final Results
Hayward, CA --- In three days of frigid temperatures and strong winds, the Urban Knights men's golf team captured a 10th place result at the Pioneer Shootout hosted by Cal State East Bay this week. Junior
Erik Majzner posted strong scores throughout to lead Academy of Art with a 231 (73-83-75) and earn a tie for 17th place individually.
AAU got off to a strong start on the first day with the third-best score of all 12 teams participating in the tournament. The Knights had three competitors,
Majzner, junior
Matt Garcia, and senior
Dave Carney, finish with scores under 80 that day, but the elements took their toll on Academy of Art in the second round and AAU finished in 10th overall with a 965 (313-330-322).
Garcia posted a 273 (78-79-80) which put him in a tie for 36th place individually while
Carney wrapped up the three days of golf in a tie for 47th with his 245 (79-84-82) score. Rounding out the Urban Knights' foursome was sophomore
Stuart Favretto who registered a 252 (83-84-85) and was tied for 58th place.
The Pioneer Shootout was won by Cal State Monterey Bay and its 896 score (313-296-287). However, the top individual performance came from Brandon Taylor of Cal State Stanislaus whose 217 (71-71-75) was in front by five strokes.
Academy of Art University men's golf returns to action this Sunday, Mar. 14 for the three-day Dominican Invitational at the Peacock Gap in San Rafael, CA.
