Week Ahead: The Academy of Art University returns home to hold their final homestand of the season. They will first host Holy Names University on April 14th in the last non-conference double header of the year. This is a make-up game due to the rain out from the original scheduled game. The Knights will then host Dominican University on April 17th and 18th to resume PacWest conference play. The Urban Knights will also be holding a pre-game tailgate on the 17th which starts at 12:30 PM. There will be a BBQ, music, fun, and a chance to hang out with the team and coaches before the game. Please contact head coach Rachel Sherman for more information.
Looking back: The Knights recently returned from a tough road trip last week. After hosting the No. 3 team in nation Hawaii Pacific two days earlier, the team headed to Arizona to take on the No. 25 team in the nation, Grand Canyon University. The Knights played well and ended up splitting the four game series with the 'Lopes, knocking them down two spots to number four in the PacWest rankings. The Urban Knights still stand in fifth place in the PacWest standings with a .500 conference record.
Leading the Knights: The team has been receiving solid pitching performances from both of their pitchers all season. Sophomore Sierrah Garcia has been the ace with a 14-7 record, and a 2.74 earned run average. In 163.2 innings pitched she has given up 64 earned runs, and recorded 164 strikeouts. Freshman Kimberly Dauer has also been strong on the mound. She has a 3.79 ERA giving up 59 earned runs in 109 innings pitched, and has posted 77 strikeouts. Junior Ashley Lokey still leads the team offensively with a .444 batting average, 56 hits, 36 runs, nine doubles, one triple, 26 walks, and a .539 on base percentage.
Scouting Holy Names University: The Hawks had a slow start to their 2010 season as they went 2-14 through February. But they were able to turn things around and now have a 15-17 overall record, and are 6-2 in conference. They are led by freshman Alexia Moctezuma who has a .378 batting average, 34 hits, 22 runs, 21 runs batted in, and a .500 slugging percentage. Freshman Taryn Thomas is also doing well with a .411 batting average, a .562 slugging percentage, 30 hits, 21 runs, and four doubles. Stephanie Fairclough leads them on the mound with a 4.25 earned run average in 89 innings pitched, and a 6-7 record. Last year when they two teams faced each other they split. AAU won the first game 5-4, and HNU won the second 4-1.
Scouting Dominican University: The Penguins have an overall record of 2-20, and are 2-18 in conference. They sit in 9th place in the Pacific West conference standings. They defeated Notre Dame de Namur and BYU Hawaii for their two wins this season. They are led by Robyn Ridpath who has a .352 batting average with 19 hits, eight runs, three home runs, five doubles, seven RBIs, and a .611 slugging percentage. Jessica Saaty has seen 43.1 innings pitched on the mound and has a 7.75 earned run average. She has a 1-8 record and has given up 48 earned runs, and has recorded 16 strikeouts. The two teams have only faced each other in a fall scrimmage game last year. This will be the first official match-up between the two teams, and the first in PacWest play as well.
Looking Ahead: The Urban Knights will hold their final games of the 2010 season on April 24th and 25th. But before that they will play two make-up games against Notre Dame de Namur University on April 21st. Then the Knights will host Dixie State in a four game series to conclude their year. Saturday's games are scheduled for 5:00 and 7:00 PM, and Sunday's games will be held at 12:00 and 2:00 PM, both at Mission Blue Field.
