SAN FRANCISCO -- The Academy of Art women's volleyball team donated their time and skills to help Playworks of San Francisco. Playworks is a national nonprofit organization that supports learning by providing safe, healthy and inclusive play and physical activity to schools at recess and throughout the entire school day.
Playworks is the only nonprofit organization in the country to send trained, full-time coaches to low-income, urban schools, where they transform recess and play into a positive experience that helps kids and teachers get the most out of every learning opportunity throughout the school day.
The women of the ART U volleyball team were there to help Playworks as they began to implement their volleyball program. The Urban Knights worked with the elementary school children for four hours, teaching them the basic skills it takes to play volleyball.
Associate Head Coach Allison Magner was very enthusiastic about the opportunity to give back to the community. "We are working on getting the kids to come see us play during our spring season," said Magner. "
We are also trying to develop and continue an ongoing relationship with Playworks [and the youth in the community] in order to create positive role models for these young kids."
"Our goal is to get all of our sports to go out and donate their time during their respective seasons, to build a name for the Urban Knights in the community, and to give back to the community of San Francisco," added Magner.
