Final week of play: The Urban Knights will conclude their 2010 season at the end of the week. They are first scheduled to play against Notre Dame de Namur University on April 21st, to make up the double header that was rained out two weeks ago. This weekend will mark the final games of the year as AAU will host Dixie State who is ranked No. 7 in the region. The women will be honoring their lone senior Shampayne Clay on senior day Sunday, April 25th. A short ceremony will take place before the 12:00 game that day.

Recapping the week: The Knights are currently on a four game winning streak. Earlier in the week they split with Holy Names University, but later earned a complete series sweep against Dominican University. The women put up big numbers against the Penguins, and came out victorious in all four games, which included a walk off home run in the eighth inning by junior Ashley Lokey in the second game of the series. AAU will be challenged these next six games, as they strive for a 30 win season.

Leading the PacWest: Several Academy of Art University players are leaders in the conference. In just their second year of play, the Knights have made others aware of who they are, and their numbers have proved they are capable of hanging with the PacWest teams. Junior Ashley Lokey is first in the conference in on base percentage (.554), and walks (32), second in batting average (.451), third in total bases (92), and fourth in hits (64). Junior Alana Aweau also stands out being second in home runs (10), and total bases (95), and third in slugging percentage (.669). Senior Shampayne Clay is fourth in home runs (8), and sophomore Melissa Coe is third in steals (21). On the defensive side, the Urban Knights' pitchers have been phenomenal. Sophomore Sierrah Garcia is first in the PacWest with strikeouts recorded (187), batters struck out looking (68), innings pitched (182), and appearances (37), and third in opposing batting average (.234), and wins (17). Freshman Kimberly Dauer is also doing well being third in strikeouts recorded (104), and second in saves (2), and appearances (30).

Scouting Dixie State College: The Red Storm has had a great season and is currently ranked second in the PacWest standings and 7th in the West Regional poll with a 28-11 overall record. They are currently on a six game winning streak, last defeating Notre Dame de Namur. The Red Storm is led by Bailie Hicken who has a .485 batting average with 65 hits, 56 runs, a .537 on base percentage, and is 41-45 in stolen bases. Behind her is Breanna Egge who is batting a .420 with 50 hits, 31 runs, 10 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 37 RBIs, and a .664 slugging percentage. On the mound they are led by Lauren Folta who has a 3.23 ERA, and a 16-5 record. She has given up 63 walks, and posted 90 strikeouts in over 123 innings pitched. As a team, the Red Storm is batting a .380. Last year when they two teams faced each other, Dixie State defeated the Urban Knights three games to none. This will be the first time the teams face each other this season.
