Brisbane, CA –
The Academy of Art University hosted Notre Dame de Namur University in a Friday evening double header. The games were make-ups after the original scheduled games were rained out twice. The Urban Knights came out ready to play and attacked in both games. The Argos fought back hard, and came from behind to force game one into extra innings. After nine innings, the Knights came away with the win with a final score of 6-5. AAU scored first in the second game and ran away with the lead. Relying on their pitching and solid offense, the Knights came out victorious with a score of 10-0.

The Urban Knights showed a lot of energy in game one as they jumped on the board right away by scoring in the bottom of the first inning. The women put up two three runs in the first, followed by one run in the second. They then added one more run to their lead by scoring once in the fourth off a solo home run by junior Ashley Lokey. But the Argos adjusted to the Urban Knights' solid pitching.  After a leadoff single in the fifth, the Knights committed two errors to load the bases. With two strikes, the Argo batter hit a grand slam over the left field fence to bring NDNU to within one.

The Argos hit another home run in the top of the sixth to tie things up at five, and the Knights couldn't manufacture another run which forced the game into extra innings. The Urban Knights' pitching then settled down, as did their defense and they were able to keep their opponents quiet in extras. Finally in the bottom of the ninth, AAU got something going. Sophomore Sierrah Garcia led the inning off with a double and sophomore Lorraine Etchell came in to pinch run. Junior Alana Aweau followed with a single which advanced Etchell to third. Freshman Nicole Smith came up next and was clutch for her team, as she singled to left field. That hit scored the runner from third, and gave the Knights the victory in game one with a final score of 6-5.

All but two Urban Knights recorded hits in the game. Lokey had a tremendous game at the plate going 3-4 with two runs scored, a home run, a stolen base, and two runs batted in, as did freshman Julie Martin who also went 3-4 with a stolen base, and a run scored. Smith was clutch going 3-5 with three runs batted in, and Garcia did well going 2-3 with a double. Senior Shampayne Clay rounded out the game going 2-5 with a stolen base, one run scored, and one run batted in.

Freshman Kimberly Dauer started on the mound for the Knights. She threw a great game and had a no-hitter going into the fifth. She would end up giving up three hits, five runs (only one earned), two walks, and had four strikeouts. Garcia came in for relief in the eighth. She went two innings pitched recording four strikeouts, and received the win in the game.

For the Argos, Nicole Burr went 1-1 with a home run, one run, and one RBI, Michele McMahon went 1-2 with one run, and Breanna Morales went 1-4 with a grand slam, one run, and four runs batted in.

Sammy McConvey received the loss in the game. She went eight innings pitched giving up six earned runs, two walks, and had one strikeout.

The Urban Knights scored six runs on 16 hits, committed two errors, and left 13 runners on base.

After the close call in game one, the Urban Knights came out strong in game two eager for another victory. It showed as they again took an early lead. The Urban Knights continued their explosive offense by batting around the order in both the first and second innings. AAU posted four runs in the bottom of the first inning, and then added to that by scoring five more runs in the bottom of the second. But the Knights didn't stop there; they scored one more run in the third inning to secure the win.

The Argo offense was helpless against the powerful Urban Knight pitching. Already 10 runs behind in the third inning, NDNU would only muster up one hit, and allow two base runners in the game. The Urban Knights ended up winning with a score of 10-0 in the fifth inning, due to the eight run mercy rule.

Again all but two Knights recorded hits in the game. Smith had another great offensive game for her team. She went 3-3 with one run, and two runs batted in. Lokey did well going 2-3, as did sophomore Shelby LaFond who also went 2-3 with four runs batted in. Garcia stood out going 1-2 with two runs, and one RBI, and Clay did well going 1-3 with two runs, and one RBI. Sophomore Melissa Coe amazingly scored three times in the first three innings helping the Knights secure their win.

In the circle for AAU was Garcia. She went five innings pitched giving up one hit, one walk, and had four strikeouts. She received the win in the game.

The only Argo batter to record a hit in the game was Mary Ortega who led the game off with a single. She went 1-2, and Nicole Burr was the only other NDNU batter to reach base safely when she walked.

Kristina Sewell started the game for NDNU and receives the loss in the game. She went two innings pitched giving up nine earned runs, one walk, and had one strikeout. Michele McMahon came in for relief and went two innings pitched giving up three hits, one run, and had two strikeouts.

The Urban Knights scored 10 runs on 11 hits, committed no errors, and left seven runners on base.
