San Francisco, CA – In just their second year of existence the Academy of Art University softball team made a huge impact in the Pacific West Conference proven by the announcement of the All Conference Team. After the announcement of the All Conference Team yesterday, the Urban Knights had two named to the First Team, and one named to the Second Team. This is a huge accomplishment for the women and the AAU team, as they were able to nab three honors in their first official season with a Pacific West Conference schedule. Senior Shampayne Clay, and junior Ashley Lokey were the two named to the First team, while sophomore Sierrah Garcia was named to the Second team.
Clay, a senior from San Leandro, CA, received the honor for her accomplishments at short stop. After a phenomenal final season with the Knights, she finished with an impressive .961 fielding percentage with just six errors in 52 games. Shampayne also finished the season with a .371 batting average (second on the team) including 59 hits, 35 runs, eight doubles, nine home runs, and a .591 slugging percentage. She also led the team with 45 runs batted in, and was fourth in the conference in home runs.
Lokey, a junior from Eugene, OR, was recognized for her ply at first base. With this being her first year at AAU she left an impression against every team she faced. She led the Knights with a .466 batting average with 76 hits, 48 runs, 14 doubles, a .675 slugging percentage, 34 walks, and a .563 on base mark. Defensively she also led the team with a .977 fielding percentage. Ashley’s batting average was second overall in the PacWest, and she led the conference in walks and on base percentage.
Garcia, a sophomore from Los Banos, CA, was recognized for her tremendous accomplishments on the mound for the Knights. She finished the season with a 2.47 earned run average, a 19-9 record, and posted 200 strikeouts in 201 innings pitched. Sierrah led the conference in strikeouts, strikeouts looking, appearances, innings pitched, and games finished. She was also third in the PacWest for opposing batting average with a .234. Offensively she also did well batting .306 with 45 hits, 21 runs, and eight doubles.
