10 Athletes Named to PacWest All-Academic Team

San Francisco, CA Academy of Art University student athletes have proved themselves on the field; and they have now proven themselves in the classroom. After the completion of a successful second year of sports for the program, the Urban Knights are excelling in the classroom, as well as on the courts and fields. AAU had 10 student-athletes who were named to the 2010 PacWest All-Academic Team based on their performances in the classroom during this past academic school year.

The All-Academic Team was compiled of strict criteria which affected Academy of Art University because of how new the athletics program is. The criteria required in order to be named to the All-Academic Team is a minimum GPA of 3.3 or higher, must be in their second season of competition at that school, and must have competed in at least 50 percent of regular season games.

The winners of the award represented eight of the University's 11 sports which are sponsored by the PacWest Conference. This is the first year that the Urban Knights have been allowed to receive this honor, and have already impressed the other schools in the conference with their academic success.

Throughout the 2009-2010 academic year, the Urban Knights' athletic program finished as a whole with a collective GPA of 2.96 (3.0 in the Fall '09 semester, 2.96 in the Spring '10 semester). Eight of the 14 teams finished with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher, with men's golf leading the pack with an impressive 3.325 GPA.
