Stuart Favretto has been named the Pacific West Conference’s Men’s Golf Newcomer of the Year. The honor was announced by the Media Relations office on July 30, 2010. This year marks the first for any Academy of Art University Student-Athlete to receive post season accolades, and along with being named Newcomer of the Year,
Favretto , was the first Urban Knight golfer to be [officially] named to the PacWest All-Conference First Team. “Stuart worked really hard in every aspect of his game," said Head Coach Michele Larkey.
Favretto dominated on the links for the Urban Knights this season. The sophomore, who was also selected to the PacWest First-Team, averaged 77.21 per the course. He earned his highest finish of the season during the PacWest Championships sponsored by Hawaiian Airlines; he tied for seventh out of the 42 golfer field and shot 76-72-76 to finish with a 224 total.
Favretto tied his season lowest individual finish, 224, three times. He first achieved the feat at the NDNU Argonaut Invitational, then the following week at the Grand Canyon Thunderbird Invitational, and finally again during the PacWest Conference Championships. It was during the Thunderbird Invitational, however, where he shot his lowest single round score of 69, three strokes under par.
Carding a final round 76 in the PacWest Championship earned
Favretto a tied for seventh place finish and his second top-10 finish of the season. “It just goes to show that when you work hard it pays off. I am so proud of his accomplishments!" Larkey exclaimed.
