San Francisco, CA – The Academy of Art University women’s soccer team has signed two top-notch athletes as announced by Head Coach Aileen Nasypany. The two athletes will join the team for the 2010 fall campaign. The signees include Megan Bucci (Redondo Beach, CA/ USF), and Lauren Huxtable (Surrey, B.C./Southridge School).
Bucci, a forward and midfielder, is a transfer from the University of San Francisco where she played for two years. During her time at USF she played in 50 matches, including 28 starts. She scored a total of six goals, with 24 shots on goal, and four assists during her time at USF. In Megan’s 2009 season, she led the team in goals. Bucci will major in Advertising at the Academy.
“I feel Megan will have an immediate positive impact on the team along with helping to fill some of the key roles we need for the upcoming season,” said coach Aileen Nasypany. “Her high-level playing background will raise the intensity at trainings and in matches. Her desire and ability to put the ball in the back of the net will help us raise our goal count. And most importantly, I believe her leadership qualities will help us overcome adversity in pivotal points this fall.”
Huxtable, a defender, will be a true freshman when she joins the Urban Knights this upcoming season. She recently graduated from
Southridge School in
Surrey, B.C. There she helped lead her high school team by being the team’s most valuable player every year, as well as a captain. She also helped lead her team to a second and third place finish at Provincials. Huxtable finished her senior year with seven goals and 22 assists. Lauren was also on the honor roll every year in high school. She will major in Advertising.
“Lauren Huxtable will fill a key role in rounding out the back line comprised of junior
Jessica Madrid, and sophomores
Tanner McCandlish, and
Jasmine Sharpe,” added Nasypany. “She is tenacious in her one-on-one defending and is a good communicator.”
The two student-athletes will join the Urban Knights for the 2010-2011 academic year, and will be looked upon to make an immediate impact.
