Kaneohe, HI -- In the team's first match of a five-part roadtrip, Academy of Art University was defeated by Hawaii Pacific 5-0 at Atherton Field on Saturday afternoon. The Urban Knights were dealt an early blow after HPU rallied in the first half, but ART U played a much stronger second period. Four different Knights registered a shot in the contest.
"It's always tough to come into Hawaii and play," Head Coach Daniel Rosaia said. "We regrouped at halftime and the guys came to play the second half. That second period we really focused on getting Patrick [Heinemann] in the game and into our game style. The team just played better in second half and they were more organized particularly in the back."
In the opening minutes of the game, Hawaii Pacific's Richard Guffens scored the first goal of the game on an assist by both George Fochive and Chance Bukoski, the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week. Before the half was over, HPU would net three more goals to give them a 4-0 advantage with Bukoski notching a total of three assists in the half.
Despite the strong start for the Sea Warriors, Academy of Art University came back to lock down HPU in the second period. Hawaii Pacific did get one final goal in the 68th minute, but ART U turned its solid defense into offense with six corner kicks for opportunities in the second half alone. The Knights were unable to come back, however, leading the Sea Warriors to their third PacWest victory. Academy of Art moves to 1-6 overall, 0-4 in conference play while HPU is now 4-1 overall, 3-0 in the PacWest.
