Favretto Earns 4th To Lead Knights On Final Day of Wildcat Classic

Final Results

Corning, CA --
After concluding the previously suspended second round early this morning, final round action of the Lindsay Olive Wildcat Classic featured the best collective score for the Academy of Art men's golf team. ART U, led by a 4th place finish from senior Stuart Favretto, picked up 12th place as a team, besting two Pacific West Conference opponents in the process on Sevillano Links Golf Course. All Urban Knight golfers improved on their first round score at some point on Tuesday highlighted by Favretto parring the second round and moving into the top five.

"I am very proud of the men's team," head coach Cheryl Lala said. "They battled through a tough course in tough conditions. Stuart finished strong and had a solid performance for us once again. It's only a matter of time before he wins a tournament outright."

A consistent decrease in round scores by junior Sean Etow eventually led him into a tie for 31st by way of his 233 (80-77-76) end result. Staying right with Favretto and Etow throughout the last round, freshman Alberto "Dago" Esponda ended up carding a 243 (82-84-77) to finish tied for 56th. Sophomore Thomas Krepp moved up more than 10 places into a tie for 66th after he shot progressively better and better to a 251 (86-83-82). Concluding his first tournament with Academy of Art, sophomore Toby Harriman also improved on his day one score with a 265 (93-87-85) that put him 74th individually.

The Urban Knights collectively scored a 951 (324-316-311) which gave them a cushion in 12th ahead of their direct competitors after the first day, Notre Dame de Namur (954), Northwest Nazarene (955), and Cal State San Bernardino (968). Chico State, GolfStat's #1 ranked team, maintained 1st place overall with Kyle Souza, the 2011 NCAA Champion, winning the tournament outright via his 220 (71-76-73).

The fourth and final fall tournament for Academy of Art is the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate which will be hosted by Hawaii-Hilo on Oct. 31 - Nov. 1. Golfers will compete at the Waikoloa Golf Resort in Waikoloa, HI.
