San Francisco, CA --
The Urban Knights were looking to rebound after dropping their tough two-game swing against Dixie State earlier this week. Monday caused the Knights to take a long hard look at themselves, and although Tuesday's match was also a loss, it seemed as if Academy of Art had hit a turning point on the year. But their path back to victory had to pass through Cal Baptist, and the Lancers provided a major roadblock on Friday night, sweeping the Knights in three straight sets, 25-14, 25-17, 25-11.

"We're struggling right now to play for one another," head coach Allison Magner said. "Tonight was a gut check. We need to play as one team, one family."

ART U did a good job of containing 6'4 Jelena Dragovic, the middle blocker for the Argonauts, limiting her to only three total blocks and four kills. But where Dragovic wasn't producing, Ingrid Carmona dominated the floor. Carmona, the 5'11 Dominican Republic native, had 16 kills on the match, and hit for a .353 hitting percentage.

Magner continued to move people around, subbing in 2010 assists leader Melissa Cheng at setter, and giving freshman Brittany Ulmer ample playing time as well. Julie Cremoux, who ART U converted to libero earlier this week, started there, but was replaced by a combination of senior Nicolette Hagan and Midori Le. The Knights have struggled with consistency, and the coaching staff will keep trying to find the right fit.

"Melissa did an incredible job stepping in," Magner said. "Midori as well. They both played key roles for us tonight but it's not enough when we don't play as one unit."

The Knights were led by Leinani Keanini and Angela Heath, who both had seven kills. Cheng had 13 assists, and Keanini also added 15 digs. Camille Board had five kills and three total blocks.
