Laie, HI -- The Urban Knights had their two-game win streak halted on Friday night as they fell to a familiar foe, BYU-Hawaii, in three straight sets 25-13, 26-24, 25-19. The Seasiders, have clinched the PacWest title and are currently holding on to the No. 2 ranking in the NCAA Division II West Region Poll.
The Knights (9-16, 5-9 PWC) came out with a tough draw on this road trip, facing the top two teams in the conference twice, but where is encouraged by their win against HPU earlier in the week. Academy of Art performed better than their first match against the Seasiders, posting a better hitting percentage and committing less errors.
Leinani Keanini continued her impressive road trip posting double-digit kills for the seventh straight game (11), and also posting a team-high 22 digs. On the island swing so far, Keanini has racked up 53 kills in 14 sets, and dating back to when her streak started on October 20 against Notre Dame de Namur has totaled a whopping 81 kills in 22 sets, good for almost 4 per set and over 11 kills per match. Amy Bush added 8 kills and two blocks, and Melissa Cheng had 31 assists.
The Urban Knights will finish up their Hawaii road trip on Sunday with a rematch against Hawaii Pacific. The Knights won a three-set thriller on Thursday that knocked HPU out of playoff contention. After a couple days off, they will host Notre Dame de Namur on November 11 at Kezar Pavilion.
