San Francisco, CA – The Academy of Art University had two players named to the Montana State Billings Desert Stinger All-Tournament team. The announcement came on Wednesday afternoon from the Montana State Billings Sports Information office. After all 30 games in the tournament were completed, the coaches turned in their votes for the top players on the opposing teams, thus composing the All-Tournament team selections. Sophomore Jayme Stewart was named to the All-Tournament Second Team, while sophomore Andrea Hanchey received All-Tournament Honorable Mention.
Stewart is having a great start to the 2011 season after an injury cut her season short last year. In the Desert Stinger Tourney, Stewart received the honors for her play as a first baseman. Through five games she batted .500 recording a total of eight hits. She also posted three home runs, three doubles, and scored seven runs. Stewart stole two bases against St. Martin's in the opening game of the tournament, and finished the weekend with nine runs batted in.
Hanchey began swinging a hot bat during the trip to Vegas where her offense quickly exploded. Throughout the tournament, she posted a .625 average with one home run, and 10 hits. She also concluded the five game stint with four runs scored, and three runs batted in. Hanchey recorded her first four hit game against Northwest Nazarene on Feb. 12 where she went 4-5. Andrea received honorable mention for her play at third base in the Desert Stinger.
