San Francisco, CA –
The Academy of Art University's tennis team hosted Notre Dame de Namur University on Tuesday night. After several days filled with rain and wind, the sun finally came out to shine, and the two teams saw a perfect opportunity to play. The Urban Knights wasted little time getting things going on the night. They came out tough and went straight to work on the Argos as the two battled on the outside courts on top of the San Francisco Tennis club. The Knights were too much for the Argos, however, and the women came away with a big victory over NDNU winning 9-0.

The women first got things going in doubles play. Coach Dave Allen mixed up the doubles combos again, and it proved successful. Laone "Lala" Botshoma and Amal Ben El Hadj stepped up first for the Knights in doubles and came away with a clean victory winning 8-0. Maria "Belen" Tenorio and Paola Correa Fe teamed up and played very well together, winning 8-2. Kunkanda "Cartoon" Phukchampa and Courtney DeWalt were the third doubles team, and also came through for the Knights as they defeated their Argos opponent.

ART U used their doubles momentum to carry over into their singles play. The women were determined to keep things going their way, and it quickly showed. Through six matches, the Urban Knights did not lose a set. Botshoma competed in the No. 1 spot and swept her NDNU challenger 6-0, 6-0. Phukchampa was in the No. 2 spot and was victorious over her opponent winning 6-1, 6-1. Correa Fe followed and came up with a big win, 6-0, 6-0, and Ben El Hadj also shut-out her opponent winning, 6-0, 6-0. Competing in the No. 5 spot was DeWalt who walked away with a 6-1, 6-1 victory, and securing the sweep over the Argos was Tenorio who defeated her challenger 6-3, 6-3.

After the win, the Academy of Art University's record improves to 8-2 overall, while Notre Dame de Namur University's record falls to 0-6 overall. The Urban Knights play next on Friday, March 18th when they host Dixie State. First serve is scheduled for 12:00 pm at the San Francisco Tennis Club.
