Final Results
Goodyear, AZ--- The Academy of Art women's golf program used a superb final round to finish the Grand Canyon University Invitational in 10th place, 13 strokes behind first place Cal State Monterey Bay. The Urban Knights carded the exact same round two score as the Otters, to surpass Chico State, St. Martin's University, and Mesa State College for a 10th place finish.
Laura Huertas led the Urban Knights for the second day of the Grand Canyon Invite. Huertas finished tied for fifth place, her highest finish of the season, out of 89 golfers. The sophomore carded a five over par-149 over 36-holes of golf. Huertas fired a two over par-74 in her final round of play, the same second round score as individual title holder Ashley Mooney.
All Urban Knight golfers improved on day two, some shaving as many as 13 strokes off of their first round scores.
Crystal Superal jumped from 63rd to 44th after shooting a team low score of 73 on Tuesday afternoon. Superal finished the invitational carding an 86-73--159.
Lyra Yoe was another Urban Knight to shave double digit strokes off her first round score. The sophomore fired a three over-par 75 on the final day of play to finish tied for 48th (85-75--160).
Carolina Ivarsson shot an 86 in her first round, then followed it with an 81 on day two, to finish with a total score of 166. While
Andrea Nieto carded a 167 over 36-rounds of golf.
Cal State Monterey Bay took the top spot with a total score of 306. Grand Canyon housed the individual leader, Ashley Mooney, and finished second, just one stroke behind the Otters. Tarleton State rounded out the top three, with a 608.
The Academy of Art women return to the links next week, April 11-12, when they take part in the Tarleton State Invitational.
