URBAN KNIGHTS WELCOME MENLO TO BOXER STADIUM
In the first home match of 2011 for the Academy of Art University men's soccer team, Menlo College will be in town to take on the Knights. ART U looks to ride the momentum of its 2-1 overtime victory over The College of Idaho this past week.

OPENING KICKOFF
On Thursday, Sept. 8, Academy of Art faces Menlo at 3:00 PM inside Boxer Stadium. Remember to check @UrbanKnightNews on Twitter for score updates and recaps. Also become a fan of the Knights on Facebook by 'Like'-ing the Urban Knights page.

KNIGHT WATCH
In Academy of Art's first victory of the season, junior forward Grimur Grimsson scored a pair of goals including the game-winner in overtime. He now leads ART U in goals scored while sophomore forward Leonardo Bartelle and freshman forward Frederick Nagel each have one. The Knights have been led defensively by senior defender and captain Vilmundur Sveinsson along with freshman goalkeeper Jacob Baumann who logged his first career start against The College of Idaho. Sveinsson helped Academy of Art keep No. 21 Sonoma State scoreless for the first 73 minutes and Baumann had four saves and just one goal allowed in ART U's victory.

SCOUTING THE OAKS
Three matches into the 2011 season, Menlo has sustained two 1-0 losses and defeated San Diego Christian 2-1. The squad's two goals have been scored by Matheus Barbosa and Dylan Crist. This year, the Oaks do return their top goal scorer from 2010, forward Alex Vukic, but it is a relatively young roster with several new faces. One of the newcomers is goalkeeper Alex Palmorez who has handled all of the goalie duties thus far. He has 15 saves and three goals allowed in three matches of action. When the Knights and Oaks met last season, ART U won 3-2 on an overtime goal by Grimsson.

THE WEEK THAT WAS
Academy of Art has played three matches in the past six days, going 1-2 during that span. After battling hard against No. 21 Sonoma State in what ended up being a 1-0 Seawolves victory, ART U traveled to Nampa, ID for contests against Northwest Nazarene and The College of Idaho. The Knights showed great heart and determination, fighting back against an early 2-0 deficit against the Crusaders. Despite tying the match 2-2 in thrilling fashion, NNU scored late to take a 4-2 win. However, Academy of Art gathered momentum from its final matchup with The College of Idaho and dramatically won 2-1 on Grimsson's overtime goal.

LOOKING AHEAD
With the conclusion of non-conference play, Academy of Art will meet its first PacWest opponent, Cal Baptist, on the road on Sept. 17. The Knights then return home to face Hawaii Pacific on Sept. 20.
