Maza, Carmon Both Earn First PacWest Honors

Phoenix, AZ -- Two Urban Knights were recognized by the conference for their performances in the Academy of Art University win against Cal State East Bay on Nov. 17. Junior center Rodrigo Maza had a double-double against his former team, while redshirt freshman guard Alex Carmon had a breakout performance in his home debut, earning both players a spot on the PacWest Weekly Fantastic 15. The conference office announced the honors on Sunday, Nov. 25, for games played Nov. 12-18.

Maza recorded a double-double in his home debut against Cal State East Bay, dropping 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against his former school in the Urban Knights first win of the season. Maza had 12 of his 14 points in the second half as the Knights battled back from a first-half deficit to come back and defeat the Pioneers 77-75. He also set a school record with six blocks.

Carmon scored 19 points and eight rebounds, shooting 63.6% (7 for 11) from the field in the victory. The guard from Long Beach Poly (Long Beach, CA) had 13 points in the second half alone, going 6-of-9 from the field in the closing period to fuel the Urban Knights comeback.

For both players it was the first honors of their career. The Urban Knights will play again this Saturday in Belmont for their first PacWest action against Notre Dame de Namur, and will be back at home on Dec. 8 against Holy Names.
