Phoenix, AZ -- Redshirt freshman
Akil Johnson continued his impressive play in the post and almost posted his second double-double of the season last week against Holy Names, and for his efforts was named to the PacWest Weekly Fantastic 15 for the first time this year. The conference announced the award on Monday, Dec. 10, for games played Dec. 3-9.
Johnson led the PacWest in shooting percentage, going 9-of-10 from the floor, good for a 90% clip. The Berkeley High School grad had 18 points and also pulled down eight rebounds in the Urban Knights 72-55 win over the Hawks in their PacWest home opener.
The big forward for the Knights is now shooting a sky-high 72% from the field on the season (23-of-32), and if not for missing a couple games would be leading the conference in shooting percentage on the season. He's averaging 11.5 points per contest, good for third on the team, and is also leading the Knights in averaging 5.5 rebounds per game.
This marks the first time that Johnson was named to the Fantastic 15 in his career.
