TIPPING OFF

Academy of Art battled hard on a long and grueling road trip, but fell in four close games. The Urban Knights averaged 64.3 points per contest, but were unable to finish off their conference foes.

ON CLOUD NINE
Ameer Shamsud-din made his ninth PacWest Top 10 Honor Roll this week and is leading the conference in total scoring with 400 points. He also ranks second in the conference in scoring (16.7 points per game), and is second on the team in assists (67) and steals (31). The junior from Portland, OR has made his mark on the Knights this year, leading the team in scoring in half of their games, and is also on the verge of breaking the record for single-season scoring, set by William Overton, Jr. at 434.

SEA WARRIORS, SEE WIN
The last time the Urban Knights met up with Hawaii Pacific, the Knights pulled away in the second half and won 76-68 at the Blaisdell Center in Honolulu. Shamsud-din (18 points), Overton (16 points), BJ Prema (13 points), Aaron Anderson (11), and Czar Robotham (11) all scored in double figures in that game for ART U, who used a balanced attack to finish off HPU. Fran Urli scored 21 for Hawaii Pacific, and has led the Sea Warriors in scoring in their past two games.

MEMBERS ONLY
Hunter Hayden is excruciatingly close to a league of his own, becoming the first Urban Knight to score 600 points and pull down 600 rebounds. Overton is creeping up on 800 points, but is way behind Hayden on the boards with 262. He is the only other Academy of Art player in the 200-200 club. Czar Robotham has over 300 points and over 150 assists, being the only Urban Knight to reach both of those milestones.

SECOND HALF VULCANS
Hawaii Hilo has been a second half team all year, much like the Urban Knights, scoring 90 more points in the second halves of their games as opposed to the first. This was the case the last time these two teams matched up, and even though the Knights doubled their scoring output from 20 in the first to 43 in the second, the Vulcans still escaped with a 69-62 win. Terrell Mack led Hilo with 16 points, and the Knights were led by Shamsud-din with 17.

SHOOTING UP THE CHARTS
Shamsud-din, point guard Czar Robotham, and swingman William Overton, Jr. have all seen their statistics get better as the season has gone on. Shamsud-din, as mentioned, is among the league leaders in scoring, and is one of the deadliest marksmen in program history from long range. Robotham has seen a huge increase in his scoring output, more than doubling his numbers from last year, and in assists, where he ranks second in the PacWest in average and first in total dimes. And Overton has become the ART U scoring leader in only his second season as an Urban Knight.

LOPES PLAY BIG IN THE PAINT
The Knights were stymied by Grand Canyon big man Braylon Pickrel, who went off for 19 points and 11 rebounds against ART U. Academy of Art struggled from the floor, shooting 35 percent, but Will Overton had 18 points and five rebounds in a total effort from the sophomore standout. The Urban Knights held Kyle Speed in check, as he only shot 40 percent from the field, but he still leads the Lopes in scoring at 13.5 points per contest.

LOOKING AHEAD
Academy of Art will play their final game of 2012 next week on March 3 against Notre Dame de Namur. The day will be a big one for the lone senior on the squad, Hunter Hayden, who will become the first Urban Knight mens basketball player to complete all four years at Academy of Art
