PacWest Release
Phoenix, AZ -- William Overton, Jr. was named to the PacWest Top 10 Honor Roll for men's basketball last week after putting up big numbers in the win against Hawaii Hilo and the two subsequent games for the Urban Knights. The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, February 27, for games played Feb. 20-26.
The Knights went 1-2 last week, and Overton played a big part in each game. The sophomore swingman averaged 16.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest, putting up 24 points and pulling down four rebounds in the win over Hilo. He also shot 51.3% (20 for 39) from the field, and was 9 for 11 (81.8%) from the line to rank eighth in free throw shooting in the league for the week. Overton has only been held under 10 points four times this year, scoring in double-digits in 21 of 25 games.
Overton has rocketed up the charts for the Urban Knights, recently surpassing 800 career points to become the career scoring leader for ART U. He ranks sixth in the PacWest in scoring, averaging 14.8 points per game, and also became the Knights single-season record holder for rebounds in a season, breaking the mark set by
Hunter Hayden (168) to go into the final game of this year sitting at 172 boards in 2011-12. His 6.3 rebounds a game are in the top ten for the conference.
This marks the seventh time that Overton has been named to the Honor Roll in 2011-12, and the twelfth time in his career. The Knights will finish up the season against Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday, March 3, at 2:00 PM.
