Favretto Comes On Strong in Final Round, ART U Finishes 11th

The Academy of Art men's golf team closed out the Pioneer Shootout with the final round on Tuesday morning at the Hiddenbrooke Golf Course in Vallejo. The Urban Knights finished in 11th place, dropping a spot from their first two rounds but still finishing ahead of Cal State Dominguez Hills and PacWest rival Dominican. Stuart Favretto finished with the best three-day score for the Knights, posting a 79 on Tuesday to finish with a 236, good for 35th place. 

Alberto "Dago" Esponda finished tied for 37th place after shooting an 82 in the final round, finishing with a 237. Sean Etow dropped off a little bit after a solid first round, but still finished with an 87 on Tuesday and a 245 overall. Carlos Nones (86, 247) and Thomas Krepp (93, 272) rounded out the field for Academy of Art.

Cal State East Bay came back to win their own tournament by shooting a 907, defeating Grand Canyon by seven strokes, with much thanks going to Jeff Cornez, who finished with an even round of 72 to end up in 12th place overall. Cal State Monterey Bay (918), Western Washington (919), and Sonoma State (927) rounded out the top five.

Chris Herzog from East Bay finished first overall despite his worst round of the three, posting a 78 on Tuesday to close out with a 221 overall. Brandon Moore from Grand Canyon came in second, also shooting his highest score (80) to finish at 223. Nick Varelia (226) from Western Washington was in third place, and there were three players who shot 227 to tie for fourth place.

The Knights will be back on the links on March 12-13 at the NDNU Invitational, which will be held at Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore, CA.
