Johansson Takes Player of the Week, Knights Fill PacWest Top 10

Academy of Art filled up the PacWest Top 10 Honor Roll, garnering seven of the ten Top 10 spots, and highlighted by Jenny Johansson being selected as PacWest Player of the Week. The honors were announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, April 16, for matches contested April 9-15 .

Johansson, a freshman from Almhult, Sweden, extended her personal singles streak to 10 straight sets with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Rebecca Corteza of Notre Dame de Namur, and another 6-0, 6-0 win over Casey Honath of Mills College. She has won nine of her last 10 matches and improved to 14-5 overall on the season. Johansson also teamed up with senior Kunkanda Phukchampa to win their last three doubles matches dating back to the matchup with Sonoma State on April 7. It marked her first Player of the Week selection of her career, and the second time on the Honor Roll.

Daniela Amelunge Antelo also made the grade, posting a 2-0 mark at second singles and second doubles. The Santa Cruz, Bolivia native is now 7-4 on the season in singles play, and teamed up with both Amal Ben El Hadj against NDNU and Paola Correa Fe against Mills to earn her two victories. This marks her third selection to the Top 10 Honor Roll.

Ben El Hadj earned her second selection of the year, earning a victory at first singles against Mills and second doubles against NDNU. She improved to 9-6 on the year, and has paired up with Amelunge Antelo and Kunkanda "Cartoon" Phukchampa to improve to 9-6 in doubles play.

The Knights fourth member on the list was senior Paola Correa Fe, who recorded a 3-0 week, earning two wins at fourth singles and teaming up with Amelunge Antelo against Mills in second doubles. Correa Fe defeated Kala Fisher of NDNU 6-0, 6-1 before winning against Sarah Knight (Mills) 6-3, 6-0. It marked her second career selection to the Honor Roll.

Cecilia Hedin registered a 4-0 week, earning fifth and sixth singles victories and a 2-0 third doubles record. Hedin pulled even in singles play for the year at 2-2, and also even at 5-5 for doubles play. It was her first selection to the PacWest Top 10.

Kunkanda "Cartoon" Phukchampa stayed out of singles play, but won both of her doubles matches. She paired with Johansson at first doubles to defeat NDNU's Rebecca Corteza and Morganna Thompson-Hayes 8-1, and again with Johansson to take down Mills College top doubles team of Alice Hewitt and Sarah Knight by a score of 8-0. The pair improved to 3-1 in doubles, and Phukchampa earned her fourth selection of 2012 and seventh in her career.

Sarah Lemp posted a 4-0 week, getting a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories over her opponents from NDNU and Mills College. She improved to 3-3 on the season en route to her first ever Honor Roll selection. Diane Phan played only one match last week, but rolled over her NDNU opponent in a 6-0, 6-0 victory. It was her fifth career selection and second of this year.
