Team Scoring Day 1
Hilo, HI -- The Urban Knights were picked to finish eighth in the PacWest Tournament this week in Hilo, but if senior
Stuart Favretto bears any reflection of the rest of his teammates, which head coach Cheryl Lala has claimed to be true all season, they will do much better than that. Favretto shot a course-low of 66 (6-under) in the second round, and finished tied for second place in the overall standings. The Knights are currently in seventh place after the first two rounds, but are only 28 strokes back of first-place Grand Canyon, and only eight strokes out of the top five finishers.
Favretto actually finished behind teammate
Alberto "Dago" Esponda in the first round, as Esponda came in leading the Knights with a 74 (+2). But while Esponda stayed right where he was around par, Favretto knocked 10 strokes off his score to finish with the lowest score of the day and end in a four-way tie for second place.
Sean Etow also improved significantly, dropping eight strokes off his first-round score to finish the day tied for 33rd place with teammate
Cody Moore, who both had scores of 154.
Thomas Krepp rounded out the scoring for the Knights, coming in with a 164 on the day. Favretto is only trailing BYU-Hawaii's Jon Scolari, who is leading the way with 139 after a first round of 69 (3-under) and a second round of 70 (even).
The Urban Knights (600) finished closely behind sixth-place BYU-Hawaii (595) and fifth-place Hawaii Pacific (592). The top three teams were as expected, with Grand Canyon (572) holding the top spot and boasting two of the individuals tied for second place in Marcus Synegal and Ryan Mahoney. Hawaii-Hilo and Dixie State both came in with scores of 581, and Cal Baptist (590) finished right above Hawaii Pacific to round out the field in front of the Knights. Notre Dame de Namur, Dominican, and Chaminade all trail ART U after the first day.
The 10 PacWest teams will wrap up the tournament on Tuesday, April 24, with a single 18-hole round that will begin at 7:30 a.m. Hawaiian Time.
