San Francisco, CA --
The Academy of Art women's tennis team had another frustrating day in doubles play, but welcomed the increasingly impressive play of Jenny Johansson and Courtney DeWalt, who both won their singles matches on the way to a 7-2 loss at the hands of Cal State Stanislaus. The Urban Knights dropped back to .500 after the match at San Francisco Tennis Club.

The Knights were forced to move things around after scratching Amal Ben El Hadj with flu-like symptoms. Coach Jerry Peach inserted his hottest player into first doubles, but Johansson and Kunkanda Phukchampa were unable to get anything going against Verena Preikschas and Katie Eng, the #4-ranked doubles team in the region. Daniela Amelunge Antelo and Diane Phan fell 8-4 in second doubles, and Paola Correa Fe and Courtney DeWalt won their share of games but also dropped their match 8-5.

The Knights started to put things together in singles play, but the damage was done. Phukchampa fell 6-1, 6-1, but Amelunge Antelo put up a fight before losing 2-6, 6-3, 10-5. Phan dropped her match 6-1, 6-4, but Johansson rebounded for yet another singles win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Maria "Belen" Tenorio also lost 6-0, 6-1 before DeWalt dominated her opponent 6-0, 7-5.

"It was a disappointing match," head coach Jerry Peach said. "Unfortunately the doubles set the tone once again and we weren't able to recover in singles."

For Johansson, it was her eighth win in her last ten matches, with the only losses coming against Stanislaus the first time around and against Division I San Jose State. DeWalt got into her second match of the year and has swept all four sets so far, also winning 6-0, 6-0 at Notre Dame de Namur.

The Knights will play again on Saturday against Sonoma State in Rohnert Park, CA.
