PacWest Release
Phoenix, AZ -- It was an impressive week on both sides of the ball for Academy of Art University freshman
Haily MacDonald (5-6) as she captured her first career Pacific West Conference Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll selection. As a pitcher, MacDonald tossed back-to-back 7.0 inning games with a win against Holy Names and then just two hits allowed at Notre Dame de Namur. Then, at the plate, the Santa Rosa, CA native had two consecutive three-hit performances, finishing the week having batted over .500. The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ on Monday, Apr. 9 for games played the week of Apr. 2-8.
MacDonald's series with Holy Names (Apr. 4) was particularly memorable as she went 3-for-3 in the opener with a run batted in, a run scored, and a stolen base. Her RBI single started off a three-run Urban Knights rally to pull away in the fifth inning. In game two, she would do it all. The freshman picked up her fifth victory of the year with 7.0 innings pitched and two earned runs allowed in the circle while helping her own cause with a 3-for-4 perfromance that included another RBI, run scored, and stolen base.
In ART U's defense-heavy series with Notre Dame de Namur (Apr. 7), MacDonald's four-game hitting streak may have come to an end, but she still went 1-for-3 with a steal in the second contest while limiting the Argos to just two hits as a pitcher in that one. She allowed only two runs in the game (both in NDNU's hitless third) and never walked a batter in the outing.
For the Knights' 2-2 week, MacDonald hit .538 (7-for-13) with two runs scored, two RBIs, and three stolen bases. The freshman slugged .538 and posted a .538 on-base percentage. In the circle, MacDonald threw 14.0 innings with four earned runs allowed, a single walk, and three strikeouts.
This is the first PacWest Weekly Top 10 honor of MacDonald's career.
