PacWest Weekly Fantastic 15 #10
Phoenix, AZ -- The backcourt duo of
Ameer Shamsud-din and
Alex Carmon have emerged as one of the premier scoring guard combos in the Pacific West Conference, and were rewarded for their effort in last Saturday's blowout win over UH Hilo with selections to the PacWest Weekly Fantastic 15. The conference announced the award on Monday, Jan. 21, for games played Jan. 14-20.
Carmon led the Knights in scoring in their lone game of the week, dropping 20 points for the third time this season in the 82-58 victory over the Vulcans. The redshirt freshman shot 66.7 percent (8-for-12) from the floor and also made all three free throws at the line to earn the honor. It was Carmon's fourth selection of the season to the Fantastic 15.
Right behind Carmon on the box score was Shamsud-din, who had 19 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals in the game against Hilo. The senior shot 61.5 percent (8-for-13) from the field and hit three shots from beyond the arc to rank sixth in the conference in three-point shooting for the week. It was Shamsud-din's fifth selection this year, and fifteenth of his career.
The Knights are sure to have more representation next week after an impressive 86-56 victory over HPU on Monday with one more game on Saturday against Chaminade on the schedule.
