PacWest Release #11
Phoenix, AZ -- After posting two teammates on the PacWest Weekly Fantastic 15 last week, the Academy of Art University men's basketball team had three players make the grade in this week's edition.
Ameer Shamsud-din,
Alex Carmon, and
Bryan Fisher all averaged in double-figures in scoring as the Knights played to a split of the week, going 1-1 against HPU and Chaminade. The conference announced the award on Monday, Jan. 28, for games played Jan. 21-27.
Shamsud-din averaged 20.5 points, 4.5 assists, and four three-pointers per game in the week, dropping 24 points and five assists against Hawaii Pacific and 17 points against Chaminade. He now sits at 16.7 points per game on the season ranks sixth in the PacWest. Shamsud-din also ranks in the top ten in assists (3.6) and steals (1.7) per game, and in the last week became the second player in ART U history to surpass the 700-point plateau for his career. This marks Shamsud-din's sixth selection this year, and the sixteenth of his career.
Carmon has emerged as another premier scorer in the backcourt for Academy of Art, averaging 18.0 points and 4.5 assists per game in the week. The redshirt freshman had 15 against the Sea Warriors and then scored a team-high 21 against the Silverswords, including making 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Carmon crossed the 200-point mark for the year, and his 13.4 points per contest ranks 14th in the conference. It was Carmon's fifth Fantastic 15 selection of the year and his career.
True freshman
Bryan Fisher averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 2.5 steals over the course of the week for the Knights. His 4.5 assists per game rank first on the team and second in the conference only to Kimball Payne of Dixie State, while his 1.9 steals per contest are third in the league behind a pair of juniors. The 20 points against Chaminade were a career high, and pushed him into a double-digit average for the season. Fisher has also come close to the single-game record of 12 assists, notching 11 assists twice this year. This marks his second Fantastic 15 selection of the year.
