TIPPING OFF
The Academy of Art University men's basketball program has played two extremely competitive contests to start the PacWest schedule, coming out on top of a close game with Point Loma Nazarene University before falling in their second game against California Baptist last Thursday. ART U big man Rodrigo Maza had his best performance of the year, scoring a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards in 35 minutes.

DOMINICAN STARTING STRONG IN 2013-14
The Penguins, who knocked the Knights out of playoff contention in the final game of last season, have jumped out to an 8-2 start this season, and have done so by winning four of their eight wins by six points or less, including a pair of overtime wins and a pair of two-point wins as well. Dominican knocked off Cal State East Bay 110-106 in double overtime and beat Azusa Pacific 91-89 in overtime to open the PacWest season. They're led by their front court, as forwards Devin Golston (12.6 ppg) and Jammall Clark (12.1 ppg) lead the team in scoring.

LONG BEACH BACKCOURT SPRING INTO ACTION
When the guard duo of Alex Carmon and Alexis Moore graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School back in 2011, neither of them knew if they were going to be teammates again. But now two years later they're ranked one-two in scoring on the ART U men's basketball team and pairing up again to lead the Urban Knights. Carmon's 21.3 points per game is one of the top marks in the conference, while Moore is finding his way into the PacWest just fine at 15.6 points per contest. The two have combined to score 258 of the Knights 518 points this year, just under half, and are also first and second on the squad in total rebounds.

IN TRANSITION
Heading into the holiday break, the Urban Knights will play three more games before the end of the 2013 calendar year, traveling for the Las Vegas Challenge, where they'll face Montana State - Billings and Cal State Dominguez Hills, and then finish out the road trip in Riverside against California Baptist University for a rematch on December 21.
