Knights Welcome Home 15 All-Americans

2013 US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-America Honors

New Orleans, LA -- With the NCAA National Championship sewn up this past weekend, the Academy of Art University track program kept the good news coming on Monday. The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) the field of athletes who have earned USTFCCCA All-America honors for the 2013 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field season based on their performances at the Indoor Track & Field Championships, and the Urban Knights brought home 15 All-American Awards from Birmingham.

Vashti Thomas led the way with five All-American honors, winning two national titles (Long jump, 200m) and adding hardware for her part in the 60m hurdles, triple jump, and 60m dash. Dinesha Bean (60m hurdles, 4x400m relay) and Briana Stewart (60m hurdles, 4x400 relay) also pulled in multiple honors on the women's side, while Johnny Carter took home All-American honors by winning both the long jump and triple jump championships.

Julian Purvis was named an All-American after earning points as part of a four-person Urban Knights contingent in the 60m hurdles, and Chantel King and Keanna Moody each earned one for the second and third legs of ART U's 4x400m relay team. Jenny Bergren added to her All-American award in cross country with another All-American for indoor track by placing third in the women's one mile run.

The Knights' 13 awards on the women's side made up more than half of those earned by the entire PacWest Conference (23), who had the third most awards out of all the conferences in Division II.
