2012-13 Pacific West Academic All-Conference Team
San Francisco, CA – A total of 76 Academy of Art University student-athletes were named to the 2012-13 Pacific West Conference Academic All-Conference Team in an announcement by the conference media relations office on Monday, July 8. Based on performances in the classroom over their cumulative collegiate career,
1,600 athletes from the conference's 14 member institutions earned the distinction.
For student-athletes to be chosen for the honor, they must meet a set of specific criteria. The requirement to be named to the Academic All-Conference Team is a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Student-athletes who are eligible to practice or compete with their respective teams are eligible to receive the honor.
The winners of the award represented each of the Academy of Art University's 14 sports which are sponsored by the PacWest Conference. Women's Soccer, who earned the
2011-12 NSCAA Team Academic Award, continued their success in the classroom as 16 athletes captured Academic All-Conference Team honors including senior
Tanner McCandlish, the program's first
NSCAA Scholar All-American. Men's Soccer followed with 11 members making the cut while Softball and Volleyball each added nine artist-athletes to the list.
"Our student-athletes continue to make strides in the classroom and on the field," said Nikki Turner, Admissions and Academic Liaison for the Urban Knights. "Our teams are getting better in all respects and showing that there can be a successful balance between athletics and academics."
